La llegada al país del coronavirus profundizó varios problemas “históricos” en la profesión odontológica, como la demora en los pagos de las obras sociales y prepagas y los insumos dolarizados. Para sumar otra dificultad, la pandemia los obliga a tener menos trabajo, por los tiempos de higienización que imponen los estrictos protocolos sanitarios.

“El problema más grande es que en los últimos meses se ha encarecido la atención, por los costos directos en relación al dólar y los insumos importados e indirectamente por los tiempos de atención. Hoy, atender a los pacientes demanda más tiempo y más insumos para la desinfección y por el costoso equipamiento de protección para los profesionales”, explicó en diálogo con 0223, Fernando Oscoz, secretario de la Asociación Odontológica Marplatense.

Según el odontólogo, la pandemia "profundizó” aún más varios problemas preexistentes, como el de las obras sociales y prepagas, lo que obligó a muchos profesionales a dejar de atender a sus afiliados y cobrar consultas que oscilan entre los $1000 a $1500.

“Algunas obras sociales o prepagas cubren algunas cosas, otras no, algunas cubren un mix de cosas y están las que piden pagar un seguro. Es una problemática dispar, porque no todas parecen tomar la misma responsabilidad o están afectadas porque tienen menos afiliados por la pandemia. Todo el sistema de salud está en crisis. A veces hay retrasos de hasta 90 días para que podamos cobrar un arancel. A pesar de los sucesivos aumentos que hubo años anteriores, no se trasladó directamente a los aranceles nuestros y mientras tanto debemos comprar hoy, por ejemplo, una caja de guantes que en febrero costaba $380 pesos y hoy sale $900”, advirtió.

Esta cuestión que colapsó en los últimos meses, hizo que muchos profesionales dejen de atender obras sociales o prepagas, debido a que los retrasos en los pagos se realizan en un contexto abrumador: durante varios meses atendieron sólo emergencias, hay menos pacientes o profesionales que prefieren cuidarse por tener comorbilidades al coronavirus y trabajan mucho menos, mientras deben sostener costos fijos como el alquiler, servicios y el pago de secretarias y asistentes dentales.

Para Oscoz, las medidas restrictivas para la compra de dólares generan cíclicamente problemas a los odontólogos, a pesar que los insumos médicos en los últimos años estaban protegidos por el estado y se debían obtener al dólar oficial.

“Cuando vas a comprar los insumos, nadie te garantiza un precio y no se sabe a qué dólar se rigen los importadores dentales. Si existe o no la especulación, porque teóricamente deben regirse por el oficial y no por el blue. Eso genera una gran disparidad en los honorarios de los odontólogos, que también depende de dónde está el consultorio y de su experiencia”, puntualizó.

La pandemia, como a otras actividades, también golpea a los odontólogos, que por los criterios que imponen los protocolos sanitarios, deben extremar los cuidados biosanitarios y deben atender menos pacientes.

“No te dan los tiempos. Por ejemplo, desde Provincia el protocolo es bastante amplio, estricto y fija pautas mínimas de tiempo e higiene de 30 minutos con ventilación y desinfección entre paciente y paciente. Y algunas actividades, como el uso del torno, demanda más tiempo. Cuando antes se podía atender a dos pacientes, hoy se atiende a uno y con suerte”, razonó el referente de la Asociación Odontológica Marplatense.

El pasado 11 de junio un numeroso grupo de odontólogos, en sintonía con una protesta a nivel nacional, realizó una caravana por el centro de Mar del Plata, reclamando a las obras sociales y prepagas el pago de los aranceles mínimos y éticos, contemplados en la ley 12.754.
